From November 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025 you can view paintings and photos about the cheese market in the Dutch Cheese Museum in Alkmaar. The paintings were made by Ingrid Kruyssen, who is also a lady speaker at the Cheese Market. Ingrid exhibits together with cheese market photographer Evert Winkelman.
The cheese market is a familiar place for both Evert and Ingrid. For Ingrid, the past cheese market season was the 26th year in which she told the public about this Dutch tradition. Evert has been photographing on the market for almost 30 years.
Ingrid Kruyssen started painting portraits of the cheese carriers on waste wood, blocks of wood measuring 7 x 7 cm, a little over a year ago. The entire cheese carriers’ guild has now been portrayed. In addition to the guild, the exhibition also features several new works, all in relation to the cheese market.
Evert Winkelman (1951) has been photographing the Alkmaar Cheese Market for a long time. His exhibition consists of about twenty photos mounted in a wooden frame of 20 x 20cm. They tell the story of what can be seen at the cheese market, such as laying out the cheeses, weighing the cheese and the traditional ringing of the cheese bell.
All in all, well worth a visit during the winter months. The exhibition can be viewed free of charge by visitors to the cheese museum.
