The Dutch Cheese Museum is located in the Waaggebouw, which overlooks Waagplein in Alkmaar, the square where the world-famous cheese market is held every Friday from April until October. A visit to the museum is fun and informative for people of all ages.

Our collection includes historical artefacts that provide a fascinating insight into the history of cheese-making and classical paintings depicting the cheese market and the romance of rural life. Naturally, you will also discover a wealth of information about the two best-known Dutch cheeses: Edammer and Gouda. It will certainly give you a taste for more!
